❥Gat: theme is often varied and improvised on. It accelerates towards the end of the performance with exchanges between the soloist and drummer. The Gat displays the virtuosity of a musician. [fast(er) beat]

Instruments:
❥Hindustani
- Tabla: percussion. Baya and daya are drums
- Sitar: 6 or 7 main strings, 11-13 sympathetic strings and 20 movable frets. Has a rich, bright sound.
- Sarod: 4 main strings, 21 other strings (either drones or sympathetic) Has a flat sound.
- Sarangi: 3 main strings, 30-40 sympathetic strings. Has a mournful sound.
❥Carnatic
- Vina: 4 main strings, 3 drone strings, and 24 metal frets. Has a mellow, rich tone.
- Violin: differs in tuning and playing position. (tuned to "sa" and "pa"
- Mridangam: barrel-shaped, double headed drum with leather straps to alter the pitch. Can produce 20 different sounds and it is not rich in sound.
- Tanpura: has 1 sound chamber and a drone-type accompaniment. It has no sympathetic strings or frets, but has a movable bridge and 4 to 6 strings.
